✦What Is an IEP?

What Is an IEP?

An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a legally binding document that outlines the specialized instruction, related services, and accommodations a student with a disability is entitled to receive in school. Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), eligible students have the right to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Understanding and enforcing those rights is where we come in.

How We Support Families

Our IEP advocacy services are tailored to the specific needs of each family and student, from initial evaluation through post-secondary transition.

📋

Eligibility & Evaluation

We guide families through the initial evaluation process, help interpret assessment results, and ensure that eligibility determinations are thorough, accurate, and legally sound.

📝

IEP Development & Review

We attend IEP meetings alongside families, review draft documents, identify gaps in services or goals, and advocate for a program that genuinely meets the student's needs.

🎓

Transition Planning

Beginning at age 14 (or earlier in some states), students are entitled to transition planning. We help families navigate post-secondary goals, vocational training, and the shift to adult services.

⚖️

Dispute Resolution

When schools and families disagree, we help families understand their procedural safeguards — including mediation, state complaints, and due process — and support them through each step.

🔄

Progress Monitoring

We help families understand how to review progress reports, identify when goals are not being met, and request IEP amendments or additional evaluations when warranted.

🤝

School Partnership

Effective advocacy is collaborative. We work to build constructive relationships between families and school teams, fostering communication and shared commitment to student outcomes.

Our Process

Every engagement begins with a thorough review of your child's records and a conversation about your goals.

01

Initial Consultation

We begin with a complimentary consultation to understand your situation, review any existing documentation, and determine how we can best support your family.

02

Records Review

We conduct a thorough review of your child's evaluations, IEPs, progress reports, and any prior correspondence with the school district.

03

Strategy & Preparation

We develop a clear advocacy strategy, prepare questions and talking points, and ensure you are fully informed before any meeting or communication with the school.

04

Active Advocacy

We attend meetings, review documents, communicate with school teams, and advocate on your behalf to secure the services and supports your child is entitled to.

05

Ongoing Support

Our relationship does not end after a single meeting. We remain available to answer questions, review new documents, and support your family as needs evolve.
